INTA was founded in 1978 by Dr. Leonard Reed and Paul Lovoi as an R&D group and developed many technologies used in ceramic metalization and surface treatments which have been proven highly effective over the years. Born in Cardiff, Wales, Reed received his doctorate in chemistry and metallurgy from Imperial College and the University of London in 1953. From 1953 to 1956 he worked for Ohio State and Rutgers University. He returned to the United Kingdom to serve in the Royal Air Force. Later that year, he returned to the U.S. to work at Kaiser Aluminum. Reed was with EIMAC and served as vice president in charge of research and development at ILC Technology, Inc.
Until 1999 the group was known as International Technical Associates. In 1999 the company was acquired by the owners of Superior Technical Ceramics of Vermont and became known as INTA Technologies Corporation. The business plan quickly changed from research and development to production. INTA plates high volume and low volume projects, from prototype to production. INTA metallizes various types of materials including alumina, steatite, plastic, BeO and many other non-conductors. INTA supplies material or works with customer supplied substrates and materials. INTA Technologies Corporation continually improves itself by using many tools including intense employee training, customer feedback analysis and many quality audits per year.
